Vedic knowledge is the knowledge of ultra-sounds.....

"seven basic notes = seven genre of sky"

sky element has seven classifications/genre called swar, sur or notes.....

all singers want to have mastery of these seven notes with soft & sharp styles, where the vocal chords/strings are trained to sing & to attained mastery over these notes.....
but,
the true mastery of these seven notes means the mastery over the sky element and receiving the real fruit that each note bestows.....

"all beings know it very well that music is diVine and so is the real sense of music, sounds & sonics"
therefore, the deep diVine sense of all what comprises music has to be developed and evolved to.....

"to attune to each note/sur, one has to become a sur, means a perfectly balanced being"

now,
each one of the seven notes, like a celestial being, graces specific sacred knowledge to the being who is perfectly-naturally attuned to each one of the note/sur.....
and, then only a note/sur can be said to be mastered, else, it merely a physical activity by throat with mental calculations called as singing in the world today.....

so, what sacred masteries are the key marker of mastery of each note/swar/sur.....
therefore, the path from practice to mastery is "attunement to attainment".....

like, just to give an idea of:-
1. sa- saam- shadaj: सा, साम, षड-अज-
meaning: six fold eternal principles,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the six (षड) fold Vidya/knowledge, shad-Vidya of the immortal (अज) principles and the knowledge of six namely tongue, teeth, palate, nose, throat & chest.....

2. re- ray- rishabh: रे, ऋषभ-
meaning: ox of excellence,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of eternal laws of earthly living as well as the real discipline to excell in those laws..... for rishabh means an ox and ox means earth.....

3. ga- gandh- gāndhār: गा, गंध, गांधार-
meaning: the fragrant sonics,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of all celestial sonics..... just like fragrance (gandh, गंध) appears out of a blossomed flower, similarly, knowledge of celestial sonics appears out of a blossomed being, if gāndhār is mastered.....

4. ma- madhya- madhyam: मा, मध्य, मध्यम-
meaning: middle,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of the middle axis the creation and the real middle path of meditation & ascending from this plane.....

5. pa- panch- pancham: पा, पंच, पंचम-
meaning: fifth,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of the law of all phives, whether phive elements or phive senses or phive tones of the creation principle viz a, e, i, o, u.....

6. dha- dhaiv- dhaivat: धा, धैव, धैव-वत-
meaning: beating one,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of the divine tuning, divine beats which are beyond the decible capacity of the human ears and the fractal coherence of the diVine beats with the only beating instrument in the body- heart.....

7. ni- nih- nishad: नि, निःषड, निषाद-
meaning: detaching & swimming beyond the six,
it is considered to be mastered only if one attains the Vidya/knowledge of real eternal lawgics of cutting all attachments and swimming into the in-phi-knit celestial ocean of sonic waves.....

therefore, one can very well notice that the real mastery of the sky element begins from shad-aj, षड-अज to ni-shad, निः षड means from the six fold knowledge of eternal immortal principles to detaching from & leaving behind all six willows of mortal world.....

certainly, in order to leave the mortal world behind and, to cross-over from this earthly plane, one has to cross the sky and the sky can be crossed only with the help of sounds, for the only quality of the sky element is sound and Vishudhi/throat center in a being represents the sky element and similar to sky, throat's only function is to produce sound/s.....
